Love-N-Chain Mail?

Look, I am not even going to start to make excuses for this card.  I think it's a weird one and I cannot even begin to justify it nor can I honestly say that it looks any better in person. Ha! All I know is I wanted to play along with this Week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge for no reason other than for the very true challenge being that I could not think of a darn thing to make from this sketch that was even remotely clever or insightful. Nada. Zip. Zilch.  All I could think of was to play it straight.  Then I started crafting this card "playing it straight" and next thing I know I have got chain mail in my hand and Spellbinders Labels 4 Grand dies in my sights.  Uh oh.   So not playing it straight.   I just went with it and next thing I knew I was doing my best (or possibly my worst) Edward Scissorhands impersonation and that, as they say folks, was that. Maybe cards are like what is often said about people:  "That it takes all kinds to make the world go round." *prays*

Um, er...I did warn you.  But really, thanks beautiful folks for swinging by.  I hope your not too traumatized by what you've just seen here.  *wink*

Supplies:

  • Stamps:  Waltzingmouse's Wanda's Pantry (Love Potion #9 Label) and Hero Arts Designer Woodblock in Canvas Stripe.
  • Ink:  Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Shabby Shutters, Victorian Velvet, Tattered Rose, Old Paper, and Antique Linen.  Memento Rose Bud, and Papertrey Ink's Fresh Snow.
  • Paper:  Papertrey Ink Cardstock in Spring Moss, Stampers Select White, and Vintage Cream,  and Basic Gray DP.
  • Accessories:  Spellbinders Labels 4 and Grand Labels 4 and Floral Motifs dies, Provocraft Embossing Folder in Roses (then flattened), Paper flower and vintage chain mail ribbon both from stash, Acrylic paint in Silver, Pale Pink, and Bubblegum Pink.  WRMK Corner Chomper in Scallops.

How funny you are! Playing it straight! What a great and creative idea to use that chain on this sketch. It is a very good take on Renee's sketch. Great job.

Edward Scissorhands, chuckle! I can just see the dies and the ink pads flying ;) I really have no idea what you are talking about, though, because I love it! The splashes of color, the wonderful rose, that really cool chain ribbon (I never knew such a thing existed!) I say if you got the labels and the chains, flaunt it, girl! Please come back and play again next week...we love your creations AND your sense of humor over at the WMSC :)

you're hilarious. I like it! If I'm being perfectly honest, the only thing I don't love is the silver ribbon/cord - I might have chosen a twine or something more simple, but I think the whole card is fantastic, especially your awesome card-base :)

You are so funny :) I think you did great. But I know how you feel. I've made some cards that I ask myself..what the heck was that..haha. That is how we grow in our hobby though.

OK...now that I've stopped laughing...
Edward Scissorhands?!!!
I personally love a mix of what I call "leather and lace"...
and the beautiful colors along with the gorgeous label and flowers...
combined with the "steel" of the ribbon...
fabby, creative take on the sketch! :)

Wanna know what I think? I think you're too good for challenges, Miss Jen. Really. When I first got in to cardmaking, I did all the sketches and color challenges and all that stuff and my cards would not be me or anything that I was proud of and mostly just not my style. It's like I had to try too hard to conform to the challenge. Skip that. I ended up loving more just free-creating, and knowing the kind of artist you are, I think that's what you can see here. I like the big flower on the top of that center pane....and whatever shimmery stuff you have added there. Just my 2-cents...
